This week in art, Riverside students learned about how to use their artist journals (aka sketchbooks) from Fraboom's Drawing with Ryan. While he had a lot of good things to say, I think it's especially important to remember that there are no mistakes in an artist journal. In fact a mistake can become your best new idea! If you'd like to see more of Ryan check out the Fraboom Online Children's Museum. Have a great weekend Riverside, and don't forget to doodle! |

Check out the great work by both 5th and 6th grade students at Riverside. In their first project, students studied the Elements and Principles of Design, brainstormed in their artist journals, and created a cover design that reflected their personalities. At the end of the unit they also had the opportunity to critique their classmates' work. The first project for both 5th and 6th graders was to design the cover of their artist journals. Students had to experiment with materials, fill the page, and overlap objects. Many used the wax resist technique, while others learned how to work with charcoal. I have seen some excellent problem solving and great creativity throughout the unit. Here are some wonderful examples. Don't forget they are due this week! |
